Nielsenwire just released research that shows that 42% of tablet users are watching TV while using their device at least once a day. Another 28% does this at least several times a week.
Smartphone users have similar habits. 40% watch TV while using their phone on a daily basis and 24% do it a few times a week.

Talk and TV typically don't mix. When friends sit down to watch the latest episode of a show, they aren't interested to hear about what others had for lunch or the latest gossip. This is because watching standard television is a one-way communication, only allowing characters in shows and spokespeople in commercials to do the talking. Viewers are viewers and nothing more.

Friskies has released three new iPad-based games for a very niche target: cats. The apps are designed specifically to engage cats and their owners by providing fun games that the cats can interact with. The games included are Cat Fishing, Tasty Treasures Hunt and Party Mix-Up! and were created using HTML5/CSS3 so they work on other tablet platforms as well.

Now that the iPad 2’s supply chain woes have been overcome and the device has landed in more consumer’s hands, the demand for tablet-optimized content and experiences has risen to a fever pitch. Applications like Flipboard have gained popularity with tablet users over the past year due to the fact that the app lays out different content feeds — Facebook, Twitter, blogs, and photos — in a newspaper-style, swipeable interface.

Unlilever’s Dove brand has recently demonstrated some serious know-how in the mobile space. It recently launched its iAd on March 14, which Dove claims is the first iAd on the Apple iPad. The campaign is surrounding Dove’s Men + Care line of products and is tied in with the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament. Tablets are a perfect platform to target their audience, men ages 38-50.
