Nokia Uses Twitter and 8 Celebrities to Expand Social Base

Nokia launched a hashtag campaign for Argentinian Twitter users that combined the best of social media, celebrity, and smartphones.
To launch the Nokia N8, users were encouraged to convince 8 of Twitter’s biggest celebrities to follow them. Participants had to follow the celebrities and then answer questions in the most creative, fastest time possible. If they impressed the celebrities, they would get a follow and then move on to winning over the next celebrity on the list. The first 8 participants to get 8 of the celebrities to follow them won a free Nokia N8 smartphone. Almost 300,000 Twitter users were reached during the campaign, and the brand’s Facebook and Twitter followers doubled while the N8 went on to become the biggest selling smartphone in Argentina.
Implications: Don’t use celebrity talent only to blast messages at participants, use social media to create real connections between participants and celebrities to create lasting experiences for your audience.
